Elias Bouchard
Elias Bouchard has been Head of the Magnus Institute since 1996. Before that, as James Wright, he was Head of the Magnus Institute beginning 1973, and before that, he was Head of the Magnus Institute as Richard Mendelson — and on and on, dating back to 1818, when he founded the Magnus Institute as Jonah Magnus.
Unbeknownst to his employees, Jonah - now Elias - has transferred his consciousness from body to body via the transfer of his eyes for almost two centuries, maintaining control of his Institute as he serves his otherworldly patron, the Beholding - the hunger for knowledge, and the fear of being seen, of being known, of secrets revealed - and searches for a way to bring about the apocalypse before anyone else can; an apocalypse that will have him at its helm, untouched by death and pain forever.
In the meantime, he's been content to keep playing the pleasant-and-fumbling boss, quietly orchestrating and feeding on his employees' mundane workplace torment, guiding his lynchpin along the path to unwittingly help bring his plans to fruition, and working on his spreadsheets. (He may be a semi-omniscient monster, but he genuinely does love his scheduling.)

appearance
At a glance, there is absolutely nothing remarkable about Elias Bouchard (except, perhaps, for the fact that he's handsome, because he got to pick the body, so of course he is), and that is by design. Out of both personal taste and necessity, he blends in as exactly the sort of academic upper management you might expect: tailored suits, good grooming, neutral colours (apart from the tastefully colourful geometric-print socks he enjoys). Tall enough to be imposing when necessary, strong enough to easily beat a man to death with a pipe, charmingly dull enough to hustle you in apocalyptic wagers. It's just the eyes... they seem to look right into your darkest secrets. Voice ref here.

👁 Elias has a townhouse near Battersea Park, and it looks almost uncanny inside, like a showroom; he lives there but there's little evidence of it between him being a single tidy person and having a cleaner in once a week
👁 He takes morning runs in the park as part of his ~image~ but he actually does enjoy it
👁 He finds pretending to be Boring and Normal while also being near-omniscient absolutely delightful, fuelling the amount of Boring and Normal he presents
👁 He likes spicy food but it makes his forehead sweaty :(
👁 He sneakily celebrates his original birthday in January by doing a Founder thing, and also celebrates his 'borrowed' birthday. He canonically will use his powers to find and crash other birthdays happening in the building, particularly if there's cake involved. Listen... the man loves to treat himself.
👁 [ WARNING: EYE HORROR ] What does he do with the body's eyes once he steals the body? Personally, I think he swallows them and they become part of the same sort of weirdness that happened to Albrecht von Closen's insides. When he's done with the body itself he politely puts his host out of his misery.
👁 Even though his personality doesn't really change, he generally thinks of himself as whatever identity he's currently taking on; it becomes 'his' when he takes over it (this also helps ME differentiate between which era of him I'm talking about)
👁 I think the original Elias is still in there, like a twitching muscle, causing the occasional intrusive thought; conscious enough to bear witness to everything his body is doing, but not enough to make a difference
👁 By default, unless a season is specified, Elias is written with mostly season three flavour; still playing the role of boring boss but with a little more knifecat-esque spice now that some of his eldritch secrets are out
👁 I mainly ship JonElias, but only write it withlivingrecord, and I will always default to gen in threads unless Elias has chemistry with someone (this goes for canon, crosscanon, OCs) and we discuss it. I'm not much of a shipper to begin with, and I know he's not everyone's cup of tea, so don't worry about any unwanted advances.

I'm also open to exploring things with crosscanon, TMA AUs, etc if the characters seem to mesh well. would prefer characters 25+ for that. mostly m/m but he's gotten more flexible in his old age.

Elias is a controlling weirdo who has been mostly alone for a very long time. uneven power dynamics and manipulation are an inherent part of him involving himself with anybody, and while he doesn't necessarily actively set out to harm in every interaction, getting close enough does put you in his metaphorical AoE of Canon Typical Elias Behaviours (manipulation, putting himself above all else, using his powers to influence others' decisions, lying, terrible puns). if you find that fun to write too, then hey, all aboard the Bastard Express.
mind-reading: probably not; he's got that ability himself and a couple hundred years of fortitude in that area, so trying to read his mind would probably end in a massive headache and/or the projection of endless horrors into your psyche, sorry!
physical violence/injuring: he's so punchable. just look at him. just don't underestimate him; he did beat a man to death with a heavy pipe.
